Potatoes, pattypans and plenty of flowers
Summer veggies and flowers are arriving in force
Out of the ground
Back again this week are fresh sweet onions, great for slicing thinly and eating fresh or throwing in to a quick pickle for topping sandwiches. Happily we are harvesting even more red potatoes, too - ready for your favorite potato salad or roasting on the grill.
Plenty of lovely carrots are along this week to round out your coleslaw or bring some brightness to your grilled veggie platter. Don’t forget to keep the tops, they make a great pesto for topping carrot dishes or serving alongside those roasted potatoes.
We have arrived to the time of year when fresh garlic is ready to harvest and we couldn’t be happier to spend time with our favorite allium. Enjoy fresh garlic anywhere you would cured garlic; these slightly mellower bulbs are wonderful when roasted, in particular.
Summer Favorites
While we’re impatiently awaiting our first cherry tomatoes, we’re taking consolation in our other summer crops currently picking. We’ll have green beans again this week, great for a simple summer saute, as well as pickling cucumbers which make a great Greek salad or fodder for a weekend pickling project. Give our patty pan summer squash a spin in place of zucchini in any recipe, or take advantage of their easy slicing for a great grilled side.
Greens great and small
Joining us this week are four varieties of microgreens to brighten up your salads and top your toast. Enjoy our radish for a bright bite, try flavor-filled cilantro for topping your favorite tex-mex recipes, toss some kale mix right into your next smoothie, or give the floral mix a go to give some more color to your weekday salads.
While the summer weather is slowing them down, we still have leafy greens on offer this week in the shape of rainbow Swiss chard, limited red Russian kale and Tuscan kale. Any of these three would be a great choice for adding some excitement to your next summer pasta dinner or breakfast skillet.
Due to the heat, our lettuce blend is on hiatus until later on towards the fall, but we are still happy to have head lettuce in the market mix this week. Give this a chop for mixing up your own salad mix, or use these leaves in your wrap - or as a wrap.
Finally, herbs and flowers!
We’re looking forward to another weekend filled with fresh fragrant basil in our meals and sunflowers and snapdragons in our mixed bouquets for your table.
Thank you so much for joining us this season - looking forward to seeing you all at Market!
Thank you for joining us this season!
Stay well.
