Blueberries, bad news + so much heat!
We will be at Perkasie this week with some extra treats!
Unfortunately, due to the current weather, we will not be attending the Horsham Farmers Market this coming Sunday July 24. We apologize that we won't see our Horsham friends this week but look forward to seeing you again soon!
On to the good news - for blueberry fans!
We are delighted to be again sharing the bounty of our local friends Vultures Roost by bringing their just-picked blueberries to Market this week alongside our own blackberries.
If you are on the Market for a U-Pick trip, we encourage you to visit John and Cindy just over in Ottsville - 64 Park Road, Ottsville, PA 18942. They are offering pick your own berries Thursday-Saturday 11a-5p - just ring the bell at the farmstand or call 215.622.4192 for service. These beautiful blues make a great treat for fresh snacking, freeze beautifully and are a great addition to any baked good.
Out of the ground
This may be our final week for fresh garlic, so make sure you pick up a few! Enjoy the milder side of garlic with an easy roast or send them through the microplane to dress up your dressings and marinades for the grill. Fresh shallots are on the board this week as well, if you are in search of another allium to bring some punch to a chop salad, as a feature player in a summer corn salad, or enjoyed just off the grill.
Also out of the dirt this week are more carrots, always a great choice for fresh snacking with your favorite dip. Back again for likely their last week are gold potatoes, the ideal potato for breakfast, in our opinion.
Summer Favorites
Our first rainbow cherry tomatoes have arrived at last, ready to roast on the grill to top up focaccia if that’s your speed. On the spiney side, we have our okra along, as well; you could take on a pickling challenge with these or give them the gumbo treatment if you’re in search of some spice.
Try our some patty pan summer squash anywhere you’d enjoy a zucchini - shredded for bread or fritters, or simply grilled if you’re trying to keep the kitchen cool. Pickling cucumbers are along again, perfect for dicing up for salads or adding some refreshing crunch to sandwiches.
Greens great and small
We are happy to have a quintet of microgreens with us to add some green to your favorite dishes. Spicy cress makes a great choice for jazzing up sandwiches, earthy beet + chard blend is an excellent option for adding some leafy green goodness to your next omelet, and we’d recommend the floral blend to give your salad some color. Bright cilantro is great for adding some southwest zest without all the chopping, and our reliable kale mix is ready to bring all the goodness of the big leaves to your daily smoothie.
In short supply are the big leafy greens, rainbow Swiss chard and tuscan kale. These leafy greens have a hard time in the summer heat, but they remain a favorite for adding some extra bite to a hearty dinner salad.
Finally, herbs and flowers!
As usual, we will have fresh cut basil and parsley bunches along this week, as well as tender scallions for a finishing touch to any dish or whipping into a tasty soup - if you are at peace with calling this “soup weather”.
Our mixed bouquets this week will feature our final round of snapdragons with a bevy of sweet william, bright dahlias and fragrant greens by way of our greenhouse eucalyptus and lemon basil from the field.
Thank you so much for joining us this season - looking forward to seeing you all at Market!
Thank you for joining us this season!
Stay well.
